All Are Welcome

As I look out the kitchen window, the beauty of the pure, cold, white snow in the back yard, speaks its’ silent words.
The world outside seems purified and touched by artistry as summer grass and fall leaves remain covered.

My friends, the birds, visit every day–so many more in the winter.
Oh, the richness of the cardinal’s red color, and the Blue Jay’s blue against the snow!
Little chickadees, nuthatches, sparrows, and juncos join the timid mourning doves to feed.

Early in the morning, big, black crows call to each other to come eat the bread I throw out to them.
The grey squirrels and the one black squirrel find the seeds that are on the ground.
No matter how much they eat, they seem never to be satisfied!
I feed them all for all are welcome in my yard.

Their presence is a gift to me and keeps me company on winter’s housebound days.
How grateful I am for the sight of them and their activity.
Despite the bareness winter can sometimes display, I know someday it will again be Spring.
